Public Comment on Trout, Pike, & Muskie Regs Ends 5/25

Since earlier this spring, the Department of Natural Resources – Fisheries Division has been requesting public input regarding changes to possession regulations on several key fish species. The DNR has made it easy for public input by utilizing a simple online survey where you can select one of the alternative proposals for each species under review. For those who lack access to the internet, or find phone calls easier, the DNR has also made the surveys available via telephone. Importantly, your input through either the telephone or online surveys should be made as soon as possible as the surveys close THIS Friday, May 25th.

The summary of the fish species with regulations under review, and the alternative proposals which can be selected from in the surveys are as follows:

Brook Trout: are under review for changes in the daily possession limits for the Upper Peninsula streams. The current limit is set at 5 fish, and the alternative proposals are:

  1. To maintain the existing limit of 5 fish, but no more than 3 that are 15 inches in length or longer.
  2. To change the daily possession limit to 10 fish, but no more than 3 that are 15 inches in length or longer.

*** Please be aware that these changes would not affect gear restricted streams.

  4. Change Season, keep possession limit the same, increase size limit to 46 inches for most waters, but allow for lower size limits in slow growth or stocked waters.
