Swine Saga – The Final Frontier?

Tomorrow, October 8, 2011, feral swine will officially become an invasive species in Michigan.

So brings an end to one bizarre and head-scratching saga that has engulfed the Legislature for months involving a Speaker, a Majority leader, committee chairs, department heads, Lansing lobby giants, high level chiefs of staff, and even the Governor. Or does it?

The Senate on Thursday did not take up legislation designed to set up regulations for sporting swine ranches, which will now allow a DNR order naming feral swine as invasive species to take effect.

Saturday, October 8th will be a life changing day for Michigan feral swine.

A Senator who supported the legislation said that supporters will still work to see that the DNR’s order is not carried out, perhaps a sign that this story is not yet over.

MUCC will continue to follow this situation, so stay tuned.
