Looking for a Shooting Range? Look no Further

Americorps • September 4, 2019

In my previous blog, Hunting & Trapping Seasons are Upon Us , I talked about the upcoming hunting and trapping seasons and any regulations that you should be aware of.  This blog aims to get you mentally and physically ready for hunting season.

Nothing breeds confidence like practice does. How many arrows you release and how many bullets you send flying downrange is ultimately up to you and how comfortable you feel heading into the upcoming hunting season. However, ifyou are looking for more practice, try heading to a local shooting range. Michigan Department of Natural Resources has a map of all Michigan Shooting Ranges, Click HERE. The map allows you to filter the listed ranges by range activities and amenities that are just right for what you need to practice. For example, In-door/out-door archery, handgun range, shotgun range, rifle range by distance, hunters education opportunities, open to the public and more. Below is a list of staffed MDNR shooting ranges throughout the state. These shooting ranges are staffed with MDNR trained employees that both monitor the range for your safety and offer advice/assistance if need be.

Across Michigan’s woodlots, field edges, and public lands, a familiar plant is beginning to leaf out each spring before many native species. While its small white flowers may appear harmless, multiflora rose is one of the state’s most aggressive invasive shrubs. For hunters, landowners, and conservationists, understanding and managing this species is critical to maintaining healthy wildlife habitat.

Known as the “fish of 10,000 casts,” the muskellunge holds a special place in Michigan’s fishing culture. For many anglers, encountering a muskie is a rare and unforgettable experience. Beyond their reputation as a trophy fish, muskellunge play an important ecological role in Michigan’s lakes and rivers and are a clear example of why long-term, science-based fisheries management matters.
