MUCC and The Average Conservationist Partner to Give Back to Conservation

Michigan United Conservation Clubs (MUCC) and The Average Conservationist are excited to announce a collaboration benefiting conservation.

A t-shirt collaboration between the organizations will raise funds for direct conservation work in Michigan. The design features the words Michigan United Conservation Clubs underneath a forest and white-tailed deer silhouette. To buy one of these exclusive shirts, visit The Average Conservationist .

Marcus Ewing, owner and founder of The Average Conservationist, designed the shirt specifically for MUCC and will be donating 10 percent of the t-shirt’s profits as well as 10 percent of the company’s third quarter profits to MUCC.

“MUCC is unlike any other conservation organization we have in the state,” Ewing said. “From policy work to a youth camp and habitat programs, there isn’t another organization with that kind of breadth locally.”

MUCC Public Information Officer Nick Green said MUCC is excited to try and reach a new generation of conservationists with the collaboration.

“As we move into a new era of hunting and angling, it is important that we reach people where they are comfortable and how they are comfortable,” Green said. “Marcus is able to do that with his brand, and we look forward to this continued partnership and watching his company grow.”

The Average Conservationist was founded by Ewing in 2019. Born out of true passion for conservation, Ewing’s company donates 10 percent of its profits each quarter back to conservation organizations across the country. His company is a celebration of you – the average outdoorsman and outdoorswoman who helps to conserve and protect our natural resources.

Since 1937, MUCC has been uniting citizens to conserve, protect and enhance Michigan’s natural resources and outdoor heritage. With more than 40,000 members, the organization is the most effective state-based conservation organization in the country. 

Working on more than 100 bills each legislative session, creating the next generation of conservation stewards at the Michigan Out-of-Doors Youth Camp and improving thousands of acres each year on Michigan’s public lands are only some of the things your generous donations and partnerships like this help MUCC accomplish.

The funds generated from this campaign will have a direct impact on the work MUCC is able to do in the policy, habitat and education arenas, said MUCC Executive Director Amy Trotter.

“Partnerships like these help MUCC further our mission and bring new, youthful voices to the table,” Trotter said. “We hope those buying these shirts will stay connected with us, come to a policy meeting, learn about our organization and get involved.”

The collaboration t-shirts will be on sale from July 1 through Sept. 30. They are available for purchase at The Average Conservationist website linked here . Buying a hat or second shirt for that special outdoors person in your life also furthers the mission of conservation in Michigan.

May 2025 NRC Recap

The Natural Resources Commission (NRC) met for their May meeting today at Lansing Community College West Campus. The commission voted to return antlered opportunities to the Independence and Liberty hunts at the May Natural Resources Commission meeting. The amendment to restore this opportunity passed after Commissioner Walters withdrew his amendment from April to only partially restore antlered opportunity during these hunts. MUCC testified for the complete restoration of antlered opportunity during these two hunts, per a member passed policy from our 2025 Annual Convention. The commission also voted on, and ultimately accepted, a proposal to allow archery antlerless take in the high snowfall zone in the Upper Peninsula. Additionally, the commission also chose to leave on the table and postpone indefinitely the order to reopen the illegally partially closed coyote season. This prevents the order from dying after today's meeting and makes it eligible for action at a later date. This amendment will remain postponed until the June meeting at the earliest. The commission did adopt proposed fall turkey regulations unanimously. The June commission meeting is Thursday, June 12 in Bay City. On The Ground: Volunteers at the Annual Jack Pine Planting Day

In total, volunteers improved about 6 acres of habitat and planted around 6,000 trees in this stand to continue regeneration.

On the Ground Junior: Spring Event Recap

Our student volunteers have been hard at work improving wildlife habitat on public lands! MUCC’s On the Ground Junior (OTG Jr.) program, a subset of the On the Ground program, is a fully funded field trip program that brings grade-school classrooms into the outdoors to improve fish and wildlife habitat in their local communities. Through activities like native plantings, brush pile building, and invasive species removal, students gain hands-on experience with conservation and positively impact the world around them. Students also participate in educational activities like predator-prey tag to teach them about population dynamics and other natural resources concepts. So far this spring season, MUCC welcomed 69 students, teachers, and chaperones who participated in multiple OTG Jr projects with more on the way! In total, they improved over 12 acres of wildlife habitat. Read on for a recap of each OTG Jr project and see what all our awesome student volunteers have been up to.
