A New Position in the Education Department. We are Hiring!

The Education Department continues to grow here at MUCC.  This growth means we have the ability to add capacity to the organization.  Through a partnership with Huron Pines, we will be adding an AmeriCorps member to our team during 2019. We are looking to hire an Engagement Specialist starting in January.

If you are not, familiar with AmeriCorps, it is a national service program designed to fill needs in communities all over the country. Similar to the Peace Corps in that it is up to 2 years of service, AmeriCorps members stay in the United States and our member will be based out of our Lansing headquarters.  The position is paid a living stipend, has health benefits and comes with an education award to pay towards student loans or future schooling.

As an AmeriCorps Alumni from a service stint in Central Pennsylvania in 2011, I was very happy with my service to the community and am excited MUCC is providing this opportunity in the conservation world. This position has the opportunity to try some new programs here at MUCC and help us build capacity in our current programs.

McKeon with his AmeriCorps team in Pennsylvania, 2011

MUCC has collaborated with Huron Pines to host AmeriCorps in previous years and the successful On the Ground program we currently run was started with the help of AmeriCorps members who eventually became full-time staff at MUCC. We have a bit of history of building great partnerships and making good things happen for wildlife.

Former MUCC Volunteer Coordinator Sarah Topp, Started at MUCC as a Huron Pines AmeriCorps.

The Engagement Specialist will be involved in a diverse set of projects to improve natural resources and educate the public on conservation issues. Some experience interacting with the public and working with youth is preferred. Onsite training will be provided. The member will be involved in developing new conservation programs and implementing existing projects, including utilizing volunteers to conduct stream surveys and conduct restoration and habitat improvement. The member will design and develop outreach to inform the public about current programs and to highlight MUCC programs. Service locations include MUCC headquarters in Lansing and a variety of field sites. Most travel will be day-travel, some evenings and weekends will be required. Strenuous physical
activity may be required.
