Public Boating Access Site on the Detroit River

At MUCC’s Annual Convention in June, a resolution was passed (#21 of 2018) to support the expansion of fishing access opportunities in the Detroit River and Lake St. Clair. Our members want to work towards having a tournament-friendly public boating access site on Belle Isle available 24/7.

Having a public boating access site on Belle Isle will not only improve fishing and boating experiences for everyone, but also bolster the economy in the area. This site will bring more people to the Detroit area and into our state parks, helping to achieve an increase in the overall economic activity for tourism and recreation.

Fishing tournaments along the Detroit River and into Lake St. Clair will become easier with a boating access site, and it can bring together different parts of the community. Having a gathering space for anglers of all different backgrounds on Belle Isle will help to add more cultural significance to the city.

Currently, the DNR has a survey open until September 4th that is asking for public input on a boating access site along the Detroit River. Having input from members of MUCC can help put our recent resolution into action. Please respond to the survey to help the public access our natural resources and improve fishing opportunities for all.
